A brief overview of King Township, a rural area north of Toronto in the protected area of Oak Ridges Moraine. It's known for its equestrian farms, prized cattle, lush vegetation and a strong vibrant community. The Holland Marsh is "Canada's Salad Bowl". The 20,000 residents live in 9 villages and enjoy many community events and activities. The municipal government controls urban sprawl by building environmentally and socially sustainable communities.
It's an excellent destination for hiking through mature forests and kettle lakes. The quiet roads are perfect for bycyclists to use in exploring the countryside and in going on a photographic outing.
There is a strong sense of tradition and I enjoyed meeting many of the friendly folks of the community. King Township is a wonderful place because of the people - they are passionate about their community. It is after all a small town where people get involved. It's different from the big city and is a pleasure to visit. Those who live there know that they are the lucky ones.
